Fast forward to the present and a few months ago that live performance reappeared on a posting by Hank Ruf. So I thought it was still a pretty good melody that should be recorded in the studio. Russ Pahl and a couple other studio musician friends did just that with me.
The steel and basic track was a complete performance with no patches. Russ later added 5 or 6 rhythm guitar tracks using various studio guitars he uses on sessions and Billy Sanford added a small bit of vibes on the chorus. No drums and no keyboards (nor banjos).
I suggested this recording be for listening, not selling. Russ had no problem with that and I’m delighted you let Charley Hill use the Steel Forum to showcase it. Otherwise, it would have remained largely unheard.
